This situation makes my blood boil. The residents that oppose the Teehans’ redevelopment are utterly without compassion for this family’s situation.
I followed this story in the National Post and The Star and the use of the word “empathy†by Sandra Bussin and the leading opponent of the redevelopment, Elizabeth Brown, is appalling and sickening.
How dare they pretend to “empathize†with this family’s plight.
A politician with a lack of pragmatism is nothing new. That explains Ms. Bussin’s behaviour.
“I don’t have a disability. Sorry. If I did, maybe I could use that, too.†What an unbelievable comment. Ms. Brown’s statement is just classless and petty. Clearly she is only concerned with one thing – her view – and she could care less about the Teehans’ troubles.
Mr. Teehan hit the nail on the head, “Architecture is there to serve the people who live in it, not the other way around.â€
Note to area residents – if the people claiming this is a heritage property are successful, other efforts to redevelop or re-design properties will also likely lead to more heritage designations. Get ready to watch your property values stagnate and decline.
